Pinpoint Science and Analog Devices to Develop and Build Nanosensor Diagnostics

Startup Sandbox graduate joins with semiconductor giant to develop low-cost instruments that diagnose infectious diseases

25 Feb 2020

Santa Cruz Tech Beat covered the announcement of how Pinpoint Systems and Analog Devices are working together on nanosensors that diagnose infectious diseases.

Pinpoint Science, a Startup Sandbox graduate company, and Analog Devices have announced they are collaborating on the development of nanosensor diagnostics that aim to deliver lab-accurate results in under a minute. Such devices are expected to transform how infectious diseases are diagnosed worldwide.

Today, few cost-effective, handheld field diagnostic tools exist that do more than detect skin temperature. The coronavirus has spotlighted the urgent need for better methods of mass screening populations to contain the spread of diseases that threaten humanity on a planetary level. Such mass screening devices can be deployed in the field rather than requiring hospital visits and clinical tests that take hours and are too slow and too expensive to impact the spread of highly contagious diseases.

Pinpoint’s nanosensors are to be manufactured using the advanced fabrication capabilities that have made Analog Devices a world leader in the design and manufacturing of analog, mixed signal, and DSP integrated circuits.
