The Santa Cruz Sentinel dropped by Startup Sandbox to find out what the only biotech incubator on the Central California coast is all about. Lou Pambianco and Mike Lund of the Sandbox gave the Sentinel staff a tour of the facility and answered their questions about how the Sandbox is transforming Santa Cruz into a center of biotech innovation.
The conversation focused on Startup Sandbox’s success formula that includes working closely with the bioscience departments at UC Santa Cruz to create and commercialize breakthrough products. Those products deliver royalties to UCSC and bring jobs, tax revenue and healthy growth to Santa Cruz County.
The Sandbox provides lab space and equipment at rates that are 30% lower than Bay Area rates, as well as mentoring and support from executives who have built successful technology and biotechnology companies.
